“Idea to Publication” workshop was a HIT with rising ninth grade students at South Fulton Public Library, Union City, Georgia. Through their impromptu written responses to the “Tree that owned itself,” students demonstrated their ability to write poetry, drama, newspaper articles, and autobiography.

Muriel’s article on Maggie Lena Walker will be published this fall in the Oxford University Press American National Biography Online.

Students and staff responded enthusiastically to author visits to Chester Middle School, (Chesterfield County), Carter G. Woodson Middle School (Hopewell, Virginia), and The Appomattox Regional Governor's School (Petersburg, Virginia). Excerpts: "We thank you for giving our Literary Arts students a new insight on the aspects of writing. Your success as "a late bloomer" has inspired them and let them know that they can become writers..." Cindy Cunningham, Teacher, Appomattox Regional School for the Arts & Technology.

"Thank you so much for telling me and my peers about writing and ideas. You definitely inspired me!" Colleen, Carter G. Woodson.

"It was great how you told us the steps of writing without making it boring." Sabrina, Carter G. Woodson Middle School.
